Canadian Red Cross Stay Safe Program
Enroll your child (10 - 11 years old and in grades 5 to 6) in the Canadian Red Cross Stay Safe Program taking place at Mary Queen of Peace School on Saturday, February 22 from 9 am - 2:30 pm. The Stay Safe program prepares pre-teens to stay at home alone and how to stay safe when an adult is not present. Topics include
* Writing down important information (Names and Phone Numbers of parents, friends, 911)
*Staying Safe: Learning to Follow Rules
* Being Responsible on My Own
* My Daily Routine and Daily Activities
* Keeping Busy and Having Fun
* Making Good Choices and Decisions
* Stranger Danger - Staying Safe at home and outside
* Being Prepared for Fun - Proper Equipment and Toy Safety
* Checking for Safety around the home, garden and community
* Identifying Dangerous and poisons
* Dealing with the unknown - visitors, phone calls bad weather
* Fire Safety and Prevention
* Designing my own home escape plan
* Make Healthy Food Choices when I am home alone
* Making a healthy Meal plan and grocery list
* How to prevent germs from spreading - Handwashing
* Making a first aid kit and what everyone should have at home and in the car
* FIRST AID - What to say and do in an emergency
* Check Call Care- Calling 911 and helping in an emergency
* What to say to the 911 operator
* Checking Airways Breathing and Circulation
* Recovery Position
* First Aid for Choking - How to prevent choking and what to do if someone is choking
* Asthma Helping someone with Asthma
* Using an EPI Pen
* First Aid for Minor Cuts and Bruises
* First Aid for Severe Bleeding
* First Aid for Nosebleeds
* First Aid for Burns
* Calling 911 for poison control
* First Aid for Insect Stings
* Am I ready to be on my own Quiz
First Aid skills are taught but children are not certified in First Aid.
