MQP Memo for Oct. 9th
Busing
Full bus service for all eligible students according to Department of Education Policy was implemented on Monday, October 5th! Updated routes and stops are on the NLESD Website. There has been confusion as to why some students were no longer eligible for bus service when they have in the past. A reminder to families, that if you were part of the rezoning process three years ago and your child is now zoned for East Point Elementary then your child would no longer be eligible for bus service at MQP (exception: students who would have been notified in writing at that time that they were grandfathered in). To find out if your child is zoned for MQP, please go to the school zoning website. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Seating Plan
Seating plans will be implemented on every bus over the next week. Once students have been given their assigned number, it will be necessary for them to remain in those seats for the full school year.
Courtesy Seats
Courtesy seats can only be awarded once all eligible students have been accommodated and there is space on the bus. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, only 46 students are permitted on each bus. Courtesy seat applications are to be submitted to kimberlyleonard@nlesd.ca.
Please find the Courtesy Seat Protocol here as well as Courtesy Seat Application form here.
Rescinding of Bus Seats
If you are eligible for a seat on the bus and will not be using it this year, please complete this form so that we can use the seat for another student. Bus Seat Cancellation Form
Upcoming School Holidays
There will be no school for students in K-6 on the following dates:
Thanksgiving Day Holiday: Monday, October 12th
Professional Learning Days for Staff: Tuesday, November 3rd and Wednesday November 4th
Remembrance Day Holiday: Wednesday, November 11th
Recycling Program
Due to Covid-19 regulations, we are unable to continue with our Recycling Program within the school, but we can still take your recyclables off your hands! We are going to continue with our weekly recycling blitz, but in a more creative way!. Please remind your children to bring their recyclables home at the end of everyday and save them for a drop off for Mary Queen of Peace. You may continue to donate by dropping off your recyclables to any Green Depot and deposit under our account (# is 7537950). Please email or send in your receipts to Ms White: charlenewhite@nlesd.ca and her Grade 4 class can do the Math and let our school population know how our account is growing. Please encourage Nan, Pop, Aunts, Uncles, and neighbors to help us. Thank you for your support!
Afternoon Dismissal
As part of our safe return to school plan, we have implemented a staggered approach to afternoon dismissal allowing us time to navigate our way through dismissal with a large student population while adhering to covid-19 regulations and protocols. Since we are comfortable with our dismissal plan we are at a point where we are going to implement time changes for dismissal while still adhering to a staggered approach.
Effective Monday, October 19th, each floor will dismiss as follows:
2:00pm: Kindergarten Students
2:05pm: Grades 1, 2 and 3 (1st Floor and 3rd Floor)
2:10pm: Grade 4, 5 and 6 (4th loor)
Daycares will continue to meet at their assigned locations inside the school and will meet their coordinators at exits. Thank you for your patience as we continue to work through this process.
