MQP Family Literacy Day Activities

 Dear Families,

“Family Literacy Day takes place every January 27th to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. Since 1999, thousands of schools, libraries, literacy organizations and other community groups have taken part in the initiative.” (https://abclifeliteracy.ca/all-programs/family-literacy-day/)

Literacy is the foundation upon which many aspects of our daily life are built. To highlight our love of literacy, Mary Queen of Peace staff and students would like to invite families to join us in celebrating Family Literacy Day by participating along with us at home. Literacy opportunities can be found all around you!

To Celebrate at Home:  Throughout the week of January 23th to 27th take part in family literacy activities. A choice board of suggested activities is attached. You can tweet pictures @mqpschool and use the #FLD2023.

There is also an opportunity to register as a family for an online literacy activity with honorary chair, author and illustrator Barbara Reid. Here is the link: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZYvfuGtqT0oGtyJ0EUJKaB7lYp64TyYEmGc

To Celebrate at School:  On January 26th, we have some wonderful parent volunteers from various cultural backgrounds that will be joining us at MQP to read to our students. As well, all students at MQP have been asked to share their country of origin that will be displayed on our world map in the main lobby of the school. This will give students the opportunity to acknowledge the diversity that exists here within our own school community.

We look forward to celebrating literacy week and we hope you find some time to celebrate literacy with your family.
