Haunted Walk for Gr. 5 & 6

Not an actual picture of Kenny's Pond Retirement Residence. MQP is pleased to announce that our 1 st Annual MQP and Kenny’s Pond Retirement Residence Haunted Walk will take place for grades 5 and 6 students on Thursday, October 31 starting at 12:40. Students will be permitted to dress up in their Halloween costume at approximately 12:20 for the Haunted Walk to begin at approximately 12:40. Please be reminded that due to limited space inside the foyer at Kenny’s Pond and for safety concerns, students will not be permitted to wear inflatable costumes, costumes that will limit movement nor will they be permitted to bring along accessories such as simulated weapons. Simple costumes with light make up and masks will be permitted. Then they will join some of the residents of the retirement residence as they walk around Kenny’s Pond displaying their spooky costumes. Afterwards, they will visit residents inside the home, collect treats at treat stations set up in the foyer of the

School Fundraiser

Together with our school council we are launching a school Fundraiser on Friday, October 25th! All proceeds will go toward the continuation of our 3 year plan with the purchase of additional Chrome Books to support our Google Classroom Initiatives. This Fundraiser will feature the following: Early Bird Prize: Two tickets to Phantom of the Opera performed at the Arts and Culture Centre on Friday, Nov. 8th and $175 Gift card for a dinner at The Merchant Tavern (To be drawn on Tuesday, Nov. 5th). Thank you to Cox and Palmer for this wonderful donation! Main Prize Gift Card tree Valued at $1000 (To be drawn on Saturday, December 21st at Holy Heart Theatre) We have 6000 tickets available for purchase and we expect these to go quickly. Tickets are being sold for $2.00 each and will be sold on a first come, first served basis. No School Tomorrow (Oct. 29th)

Don't forget, there will be no school tomorrow, Oct. 29th. Teachers are taking part in a Professional Learning Day. School will resume on Wednesday, Oct. 30th. It will be Day 5 on the cycle.

Jamarama Day at MQP on Friday!

Mary Queen of Peace will be taking part in Pamarama Day on Friday! Students are invited to bring $2.00 to support the Janeway, and to wear their PJ's all day long. Please keep companion teddy bears and other stuffed animals to a maximum size of 2ft tall. 

Picture Day Wednesday & Thursday

Braid your hair with an upside down fishtail, and put on a shirt with a collar! School photos will be taken tomorrow and Thursday for all students in school. K-3 photos will take place on Wednesday, and photos for students in Grade 4-6 will happen on Thursday.

Fudgestick Friday!

Definitely one of our favorite Fridays, above FryDay, but just below FriYay, Fudgestick Friday will be held this Friday, Oct. 25th. Bring in $1.00 and get a delicious and chocolatey Fudgestick to enjoy at recess! 

National Indigenous Veterans Day

In recognition and to honour National Indigenous Veterans Day (Held Annually each year on November 8th)  , MQP would welcome the opportunity to partner with Indigenous Organizations and their representatives to have Indigenous representation in our Remembrance Day ceremony taking place in November. If there are representatives of Indigenous Organizations of community members of Indigenous Ancestry that would like to be in attendance or have possible involvement in our Remembrance Day ceremony, they can contact Mr. Tyrone Power at the school or at my email (tyronepower@nlesd.ca) If you know of someone of indigenous Ancestry who could help or would like to be part of the ceremony, can you please let me know or have them contact me and I will discuss it with them.

Babysitting Course Info

The babysitting course with Mr. Power will be going ahead on Saturday, Oct26th at MQP. It starts at 9:30 am and will conclude at 3:30 pm. Please use the student entrance when dropping off students. Payment must be made prior to October 21st so all documents can be processed.

Ms. Marshall asks that all Grade 4 students wear black pants or a black skirt and a fall colored t-shirt or top for their Thanksgiving Assembly on Thursday. 

Chess Club

Chess Club is on again this year at MQP! Instructor: We are very fortunate to have Nihad Dervisevic returning again this year as our Chess Instructor.  Nihad had been ill so we have a bit of later start this year, but very happy today he is well on the mend and ready to instruct our MQP Chess students! Registration: Registration forms are due to be returned to your child’s teacher by Friday, October 18th, 2019. Schedule: Chess Club will begin Tuesday, November 5th. As in past years, Chess Club will happen during lunchtimes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.  The decision regarding which day a given grade will attend Chess Club will be communicated after registration. It depends on the numbers registered by each grade.  This will ensure the numbers of players in attendance are equal on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Also this year we hope to continue to offering an additional afterschool session each Thursday from 2:15-3:15  pm for those students who have a speci
